WHY IS INTERSECTIONALITY IMPORTANT TO THE LGBTQ+ MOVEMENT?

Pride as we know it would have never existed had it not been for Black and Latinx transgender women like Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera. Unfortunately, the modern gay rights movement tends to exclude transgender people and people of color. To be truly liberating, the LQBTQ+ movement needs to fight for everyone who identifies as LGBTQ+.

HOW CAN SUPPORT FOR THE LQBTQ+ MOVEMENT BE BETTER?

Instead of rainbow-washing their brand during Pride month, companies should take real action to support LGBTQ+ communities, whether that means hiring more people in the community, providing opportunities outside of Pride Month for LGBTQ+ people to be front and center in their marketing campaigns, and advocating for and donating to LGBTQ+ led organizations year-round.
